First off what is “Photo Management”
“Photo Management” is the cataloging, annotating, storage and retrieval of you digital photographs. The term “Photo Management” is used as an acronym or sub-category of “Digital Content Management” (DCM). Digital content management systems are software programs that are designed for making the process of performing the tasks necessary to manage your files (photos) so you can keep track of what you have, where it is and allows you find it and retrieve it at any time in the future.
Not too long ago
When we started in the photo software business 15 years ago most people had relatively few digital photos on their computer, mostly scans of older photos that needed some work. This took a good amount of time so you really didn’t accumulate files rapidly. To organize, You could rely on a system of well named directories and file names. It was possible to keep track of what you had quite easily.
Along comes the digital camera!
I bought my first digital camera some where about 1997 and it cost close to $1500 it was 1.4 mega-pixels, wow. I started taking photos like never before, I didn’t have to pay for developing and I could see the right then and there. Pretty soon I had thousands of digital photos. I wasn’t naming them and I got really disorganized. Then the price of Digital Cameras dropped. Now every one has a camera and their photo
collections are getting larger every day. That is why we created a Photo Manager program called EZ Viewer DCM v4.
Why use a Photo Management Software System
Effective implementation of “DCM” system should reduce the amount of time you spend searching for that one photo you know you have, but cant find. A friend of mine recently dropped by, I played in band with him back in the 80’s. I have been scanning photos from that era in my life and I was able to bring them up and show them to him and we reminisced about the good old days.
I going to end this here as I don’t want this blog to be long winded. I’ll be back soon with more dissucions on the subject of Photo Management.
